The game being played in American politics right now is rigged in favor of the wealthy titans: corporations, billionaire donors and high tech leaders. The wealthy titans want only three things: They don’t want to pay taxes. They don’t want any regulation. They want a strong military to protect their interests at home and abroad. Wealthy titans get these three things rapidly and efficiently when democracy is eliminated and replaced by an authoritarian government. One note of caution: A lot of dust is being kicked up in the wake of our declining democracy. Don’t let the dust impair your vision. Keep your eyes open and read Dust in Our Eyes. Barbara Lloyd McMichael’s book review offers us a one-way ticket to the world of how the ultra-rich amass a tax-free fortune. Joe Puggelli writes about one of his all-time favorite books The True Believer by Eric Hoffer. What’s going on with Small Business? Entrepreneurs are being hit the hardest by economic uncertainty caused by the Trump administration’s erratic policies.

Dust in Our Eyes by Patricia Vaccarino  The daily news cycle is awash in a dust storm. News briefs focus on globalization, manifest destiny, digitization, artificial intelligence, smart phones, TikTok, elimination of the penny, the price of eggs, the disruption of the car industry, LGBTQ people and immigrants. But it’s not really about any of these things. It’s about a bid for power.

Book Review: The True Believer by Eric Hoffer  Hoffer’s The True Believer is a working-class manifesto that might very well serve as a blue print for the disenchanted MAGA folks. Multiple critics have praised the book for a common sense approach that was born of the author’s experience as a working man who understood America and Life as few intellectuals can. –Joe Puggelli

We’re All Getting Screwed by Big Business by Patricia Vaccarino  Whether you are conservative, liberal, moderate or some variation in between, we’re all at the mercy of monopoly powers. Monopolies can do whatever they want to consumers. Monopolies increase prices whenever they want, limit our choices in the marketplace, and block competition and innovation, both which are needed for a successful free and open market economy.

A right-wing think-tank redirects the Justice Department’s purpose  President Donald Trump is openly transforming the Department of Justice's primary role of advising presidents on the limits of their authority under the Constitution into one that justifies and advocates his MAGA philosophy. This overlooks the reality that the public does not adhere to a single philosophy other than preserving their rights as guaranteed by our constitutional government.  –Nick J. Licata

The Consequences of Chaos by Annie Searle  We have a long road ahead, but the midterm elections are closer than we think. The State Supreme Court election in Wisconsin showed that change is possible in the face of monied interests.
